A YouTuber named Jamie built a functional air-powered table saw from LEGO bricks and a real metal blade. The power source is a 3D-printed turbine he has been developing across multiple prototypes, designed to convert high-pressure compressed air into rotation efficiently enough to cut actual wood.
The build process reveals two hard limits fast. An all-LEGO version with a LEGO blade barely cuts paper. A 3D-printed saw blade also fails, because additive manufacturing cannot produce a sharp enough edge. The solution is a real metal table saw blade mounted to the LEGO-and-turbine assembly, which then cuts wood and, as Jamie notes, would cut fingers just as readily. The only safety feature is a dead-man switch that cuts the air supply when the operator releases their hand.
The original video is worth watching for the turbine geometry iteration alone. Jamie works through several 3D-printed blade profiles to find the shape that extracts the most work from the airflow, and that engineering process is more instructive than the saw itself. The auto-feeding mechanism he adds also fails in interesting ways, which tells you something real about the difficulty of precision feeding in low-rigidity LEGO frames.
