A modder known as KOUZEX surgically merged Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons into WiiMote shells, producing functional hybrid controllers that work on the Switch 2. The build required fitting the Joy-Con side rail, thumbstick, and PCB inside the WiiMote body while keeping the WiiMote PCB intact. Two WiiMotes were sacrificed and will never connect to a Wii again.
The mod is neither clean nor simple. Button remapping was the hardest problem: several Joy-Con inputs have no WiiMote equivalent, forcing compromise on layout. KOUZEX acknowledges a custom PCB and 3D-printed shell would have been more practical, and would stop the project from consuming increasingly scarce WiiMote hardware.
The reason to watch the full video is the detail on how the internal geometry was solved, not just the finished result. The open question KOUZEX raises is whether a purpose-built version could retain full WiiMote Bluetooth functionality, making one controller work on both the Switch 2 and an original Wii. That problem is unsolved and worth following.
