The ESP32-S31 runs full Linux. Not the memory-management-unit-less nommu variant, but a proper MMU-backed kernel, on a dual-core RISC-V chip with WiFi 6 and Gigabit Ethernet.

Espressif has published a Linux repository on GitHub, and a community port targeting the 6.x kernel is already underway at github.com/GrieferPig/esp32-s31-linux. Dev boards are available on AliExpress now. Resource constraints are real, so do not expect a usable desktop, but the kernel boots, and that is the threshold that matters.

The convergence of microcontroller pricing and SoC capability has been theoretical for years. The S31 makes it concrete. Read the original for the hardware spec breakdown and to understand exactly where the ceiling sits before you order a board.
