A new color 3D printing method demonstrated by YKG3D cuts tool changes significantly by rotating through a color palette once per layer, then controlling color prominence by adjusting filament volume or edge displacement. The technique is grounded in 2018 research and produces smoother gradients, better color blending, and faster print times than conventional multi-color approaches.

The tradeoff is visible: each additional base color multiplies apparent layer height. A 3-color print at 0.2 mm layer height reads visually as 0.6 mm. Steep walls also break the blending illusion, exposing the method's geometric limits.
